The Cub Scout Day Camp is the first level of our Cub Scout Summer Camping program. The goal of the Cub Scout Day Camp is to provide a safe, fun day camping program for our Cubs and their parents based on the theme for the year.
The Hiawatha Seaway Council, with the help of many, many volunteers will run Cub Scout Day Camps throughout the entire Council territory in an effort to make the program available to all of our Cub Scouts. The actual program areas that are available at each location will vary somewhat based upon the facilities that are available at each location. The core program areas of crafts, nature and field sports will be available at all locations with archery, swimming, boating, knot tying, fishing and first aid being made available as facilities and qualified instructors permit. All camps will be staffed with trained and certified Camp Directors, Program Directors, Health Directors and personnel needed to provide a safe and fun summer camping experience for you and your son.
While it is not mandatory that every Cub Scout who attends Day Camp be accompanied by a parent, the intention of the Camp Staff is not to provide an inexpensive week of day care for your son(s). Rather, we are all working hard to provide an unique opportunity for you to come to Day Camp with your son and spend each day sharing in what he and his new friends are experiencing at each program area.
The couple of days you take to spend with your son will provide numerous memories for you to share and countless opportunities for parent/son bonding, reinforcing the family values and togetherness that Scouting has stood for nearly 90 years.
As more and more families choose to make Cub Scout Day Camp a part of their sons summer plans, it becomes increasingly more important that parents also make it part of their plans as well. In order to provide the quality program you have come to expect from the Cub Scout Day Camp, it is necessary to have the involvement and support of the parents of the scouts attending camp. Parent involvement can range from acting as a Den Parent and guiding your son from program area to program area and participating with him and his friends to sharing own personal talents with the whole camp by running a program area as an Area Director. Your involvement will not only show your son how much you want to share in his experiences and allow you to create lasting memories together.
Once again, space at Cub Scout Day Camp is limited so be sure to get your registration and health form in as soon as possible. As in past years, every effort will be made to accommodate requests for den groupings, however, no guarantees can be made (please keep in mind that one benefit to Cub Scout Summer Camp is the opportunity to make new friends and interact with new people).
